European Interuniversity Certificate in Qur’anic Studies

Overview
The European Interuniversity Certificate in Qur’anic Studies offers an interdisciplinary and academically rigorous approach to the study of the Qur’an, its historical context, textual formation, and traditions of interpretation. The programme brings together perspectives from history, philology, anthropology, religious studies, and theology. It is designed to provide participants with the methodological and analytical tools required for the critical study of the Qur’anic text and the diverse traditions associated with it.
This programme is jointly delivered in partnership with the University of Strasbourg.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the programme, participants will be able to:
– situate the Qur’anic text within its historical, cultural, and intellectual contexts;
critically analyse the Qur’an using the methods of contemporary academic scholarship;
– engage with major approaches to Qur’anic interpretation and the history of Qur’anic exegesis;
– draw upon relevant methods from philology, history, anthropology, and the study of religion;
– critically assess scholarly debates concerning the origins, transmission, interpretation, and reception of the Qur’an.
Programme
The programme comprises 30 ECTS credits and is delivered entirely online. Teaching is provided by specialists from different European academic institutions and disciplines.
Target Audience
The programme is intended for teachers, journalists, professionals working in the social, cultural, and educational sectors, students, researchers, and anyone wishing to deepen their knowledge of the Qur’an within a university-level academic framework.
Academic Certification
Participants who successfully complete the programme and meet the assessment requirements are awarded the European Interuniversity Certificate in Qur’anic Studies.
Language and Delivery
The programme is delivered fully online and is intended to facilitate access to advanced academic training in Qur’anic studies across European and international contexts.
