Elements biographiques

William Nassau Lees (1825-1889) était officier de l’armée anglaise de l’Inde. Orientaliste maîtrisant parfaitement le persan, il édita et traduisit plusieurs ouvrages s’intéressant notamment à la culture persane, arabe et indienne (littérature, religion, histoire). Il fut le principal du college de Calcutta et le directeur de la Madrasah à Hooghly.
