Eléments biographiques

Arthur Jeffery a étudié à l’Université de Melbourne, en Australie, où il a obtenu ses diplômes universitaire (BA. 1918, MA. 1920), et un diplôme en théologie (B.Th. 1926). En 1921, il est Professeur à le School of Oriental Studies (S.O.S.) de l’Université du Caire où il acquiert une grande connaissance des langues sémitiques. En 1929, il obtint son doctorat (avec mention spéciale) à l’Université d’Édimbourg et enchaîna avec un Lit D.. (Summa cum laude) en 1938 dans la même institution.
Ses livres et articles comptent parmi les plus important écrits sur le Coran, son histoire et les termes étrangers (non arabes) qui s’y trouvent.
